This is an important post that really covers 3 events. The 7.3 earthquake and a possible 3 ft high Tsunami plus Typhoon Francis coming soon. A 5.1 just followed up the big earthquake.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a “yellow” warning early Saturday morning that a small tsunami would reach the Japanese coast at Fukushima, site of a wrecked nuclear power plant, at 1:40 p.m. EDT, after a strong earthquake struck near Honshu Island.
There were no immediate reports of damage on land from the quake, classified as magnitude 6.8 by Japanese authorities and 7.6 by the United States Geological Survey, which struck some 230 miles off Japan’s eastern coast.
A yellow warning is issued when a tsunami is not expected to exceed a height of 3 feet, far smaller than the wave that hit the plant in 2011.
